Maroulosalata, also known as Greek lettuce salad, is a classic Greek salad that puts crisp, shredded romaine and herbs at the center, instead of the usual tomato and cucumber combo. It’s the kind of salad that’s as much about texture as it is about flavor, with a bright, tangy dressing that’s so simple to make.Related: My Husband Cracked the Code to the Best-Ever Roasted Carrots
How to Make Maroulosalata
This salad is as easy to toss together as it is to eat, which means it’s perfect for those nights when you need something fresh and fast.
To make The Modern Nonna's version, you'll need a head of romaine lettuce (finely shredded), thinly sliced scallions, chopped dill, crumbled feta, olive oil, lemon juice and salt. You can also add pepper if you like. (For the exact ingredient amounts, see the caption in The Modern Nonna's TikTok video.)
Start by washing and thoroughly drying the romaine. This is key for a crisp, non-soggy salad. Thinly shred it into fine ribbons and place it in a large bowl.
Add the scallions and dill. Give it all a gentle toss to mix. Drizzle the olive oil and lemon juice over the salad, then sprinkle on the salt. Toss again to coat every ribbon of romaine.
Crumble the feta over the top. You can mix it in for an even distribution or leave it on top for a prettier presentation.
Serve immediately, or let it chill in the fridge for 10 minutes to let the flavors meld a bit.

Variations to Try
While this version keeps things simple, you can definitely put a twist on the classic recipe depending on what you have in the fridge. Toss in some sliced radishes, cucumber or even a handful of toasted nuts for texture, or add some grilled chicken, shrimp or chickpeas to turn this side salad into a full-on lunch or dinner.
Try adding fresh mint, parsley or basil for an even more aromatic salad. If you’re not a fan of feta, a crumbly fresh goat cheese or even shaved Parmesan would work beautifully instead.
You can also add a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes or a drizzle of hot honey for a surprising pop of heat.
