2025 BRISBANE SENIOR METRO CHAMPIONSHIPS

Friday, March 7th – Sunday, March 9th Brisbane Aquatic Centre LCM (50m) Meet Central Entries

The 2025 Brisbane Senior Metro Championships are rapidly approaching, with the three-day competition beginning on Friday, March 7th.

Although there are indeed a handful of key Aussies among the entrants, including Elijah Winnington, Jaclyn Barclay, Kai Taylor, and William Petric, the real draw is a pair of Italians that rarely compete in Oceania.

Entre 24-year-old Thomas Ceccon and 25-year-old teammate Alberto Razzetti.

Versatile Ceccon, the reigning 100m backstroke world record holder and Olympic champion, is set to race in the 100m free, 100m fly, and 200m back events.

Post-Paris, Ceccon raced at all three stops of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup series where he ultimately placed 8th in the overall money standings.

As for Razetti, the national record holder is expected to race in the 100m breast, 400m free, 100m fly and 200m breast in Brisbane. He, too, raced on the World Cup circuit although he ended his 2024 year in Budapest.

At last year’s Short Course World Championships, Razzetti clinched individual silvers in the 200m fly and 200m IM races while he also bagged bronze in the 400m IM. Razzetti was also a member of Italy’s bronze medal-worthy men’s 4x200m freestyle relay which set a new national record.

Of note on the women’s side, 21-year-old Laura Lahtinen of Finland is also listed among the entrants. She went on a record-breaking tear last year, hitting new national marks in the SCM 50, 100 and 200 butterfly.

Lahtinen is entered in the 400mIM, 200m fly, 200m IM, 100m fly, 200m breast and 50m fly to keep her active throughout the entire meet.
